HB 299 Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders: Changes to Florida’s Training Program
A new video training detailing how HB 299 (R-Black; R-Salzman) changes Florida’s longstanding ADRD education has been produced by LSLE for those health care providers impacted by the bill. Effective July 1, 2023, HB 299 expands training requirements to certain non-specialized health care providers, changes topics for others, introduces an additional 1-hour requirement, and modifies timeframes for employees.
Recognizing the impact of individuals working as caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or a related disorder, this expansion of training requirements will influence a greater number of employees working with seniors residing in Florida.
The result of a valiant attempt to simplify Florida’s 25-year-old training program across 8 provider types, the enrolled bill language is convoluted and may create a steep compliance curve. In an attempt to lessen the complexity, Laurel Senior Living Education has produced HB 299 ADRD: Changes to Florida’s Training Program. Developed by a Department of Elder Affairs approved ADRD Instructor, the video training addresses covered providers, including:
- Assisted Living Facilities
- Nursing Homes
- Adult Family Care Homes
- Adult Day Care Centers
- Home Health Agencies
The 30-minute video training covers key aspects of the newly created s. 430.5025, F.S.:
- Timeframes
- Distinctions between Health Care Provider and Employee Types
- Training Topics
- Definitions
